Archives hold many mysteries waiting to be uncovered. An unlabeled photograph, an anonymous diary, or a forgotten manuscript can open new windows into the past. In this program, Baltimore-based ensemble Ann Street Trio will bring music and archives together to explore how works and their creators are remembered, overlooked, and rediscovered.

About the Performers
The Baltimore-based Ann Street Trio is devoted to performing chamber music from the classical era to the 21st century. Comprised of several of Baltimore’s finest musicians, the Ann Street Trio believes in engaging their audience through creative programming and conversation, and strives to give them an up-close look at the creativity and excitement of chamber music. The Ann Street Trio reaches audiences through chamber music series in the region, university engagements, and private salon concerts.
Hui-Chuan Chen, piano
A native of Taiwan, pianist Hui-Chuan Chen began her piano studies at the age four and made her debut performance at six. As a successful soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist and educator, Hui-Chuan has traveled and performed widely throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
She has won numerous prizes at competitions for her solo performances, including the Wonderlic piano competition in Baltimore, the Concerto Competition of International Music Festival in Siena, Italy, the Kaohsiung City Competition, Kawai Piano Competition, and the University Piano Concerto Competition of NTNU, Taiwan.
As an avid chamber musician, she has performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and Supreme court of the United States. She has performed and collaborates with accomplished musicians such as cellist, Amit Peled, and flutist, Demarre McGill.
Hui-Chuan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University where she is also a faculty member in the Preparatory Division. She also serves on the faculty of the University of Maryland Baltimore City, Washington Conservatory of Music and the Heifetz International Music Festival in Virginia.
Katlyn DeGraw, cello
Cellist Katlyn DeGraw is a seasoned performer with recent appearances around the globe, including concerts throughout the U.S., Canada, and Asia. In demand as an orchestral cellist, Ms. DeGraw is the Associate Principal Cellist of the Maryland Symphony, and appears frequently with the Richmond and Annapolis Symphonies. Additionally, she has performed with the Baltimore and Charleston Symphonies on numerous occasions. Equally passionate about chamber music, Ms. DeGraw has been a guest on a number of concert series in the region and is the founding cellist of the Ann Street Trio, based in Baltimore. Ms. DeGraw holds a Bachelor degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where she studied with Amit Peled, and a Master degree from the Eastman School of Music where she worked with David Ying. DeGraw plays on a beautiful French cello made by Nicolas Gilles in 2010.
Erik Franklin, clarinet
Composer/clarinetist Erik Franklin balances a vibrant, varied career on and off the stage. He has given concerts in nearly all fifty states and throughout Europe, performing for audiences in venues from veterans’ homes to Carnegie Hall. A former member of the United States Army Field Band (Washington, D.C.), Franklin performs as a soloist and chamber musician across the country. His performing sensibility shines through his compositions, which feature lyrical, expressive melodies that delight audiences and performers alike.
Previously, Franklin has been commissioned by the Interlochen Arts Academy Band and the United States Air Force Academy Band. Upcoming performances include the world premiere of The Old Road (May 2024), which features the composer as clarinet soloist with the Greenville (SC) Symphony Orchestra. Equally at home in the world of vocal music, his works have earned prizes from the National Association of Teachers of Singing and at the 2023 NYC songSLAM festival.
